Remaining Vigilant

This past weekend I had the unique opportunity to spend time with Deputy Director of the ODNI's National Counterintelligence and Security Center, Constance Taube, and the Executive Director of Intelligence for the Transportation Security Administration, Nancy Nykamp. We spoke a lot about cyber security and some of the other challenges facing the United States. Both reiterated the need for our constant vigilance and, quite frankly, more aggressive efforts to stop phishing and other "hygiene" related attacks.

We were able to discuss our InfraGard #CyberCamp2017 and that this year, our chapter is working to expand it to two weeks. Our team is hard at work already preparing for this important contribution to our nation's long-term security.

National Critical Infrastructure Security & Resilience Month (NCISRM) is another effort aimed at tackling some of the greatest challenges of our times: how do you make more people aware, and convinced, of the dangers creeping through our computers? Planning for our next NCISRM event begins this month and we invite you to join us. In 2017 we plan to add a CyberWar focused on infrastructure attacks in addition to looking at interdependencies among our critical infrastructure sectors.

We work hard to find ways to help raise awareness and remain vigilant. We can't, however, do it alone. Between our current political environment, a lack of understanding of consequences by most of our population, and general complacency, it's a very tough job. That's why we need you to be our amplifiers. You are in a position of great strength - where you can make a direct impact on the security of your enterprise and the security of our nation. Take this opportunity in 2017 to get more engaged and help us bring our message to your company and community.
