Erik Peterson, Director, Communications
Erik Peterson is a homeland security consultant specializing in cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection policy issues. In his current role with HWC, he supports the Office of Infrastructure Protection within the National Protection and Programs Directorate at the Department of Homeland Security. He collaborates on a variety of policy initiatives including efforts to improve election infrastructure, standards utilization, and emerging technologies.
Previously he served as a Professional Staff Member on the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Homeland Security, Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection. He was the subject matter expert for several portfolios including DHS cybersecurity and Rad/Nuc detection. Erik worked on major policy initiatives such as the Cybersecurity Act of 2015, the National Cybersecurity Protection Act of 2014, and the Protecting and Securing Chemical Facilities from Terrorist Attacks Act of 2014. Additionally, Erik worked for Congressman Lamar Smith, assisting with constituent casework. Erik has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a concentration in International Politics from Texas Lutheran University.
